Beware the start of April

April 1st is the only day of the year when my love of the internet dims at all. I find the vast majority of the jokes that abound on the web every April Fool’s Day to be hackneyed, distracting and annoying. Call me humorless if you must, but do we REALLY need several million “ha ha I’d never say this in real life gotcha!” posts? Doubly so since so many of them are so painfully drull, obvious, and irritating.

A few exceptions: Google is usually good for a 4.1 laugh. (This year’s was less impressive, but I still got a bit of a chuckle out of it.) And this year’s YouTube is, well, see for yourself. Hit up and click on any of the “featured videos.”

In the meantime, I think I’m going to offline myself for a little while, do some thesis work, and maybe read a little bit. (I’ve been reading the amazing Phil Plait’s book Bad Astronomy. HIGHLY recommended.)
